Chromebooks are known as those cheap laptops that allow you to do almost anything you can do on a regular laptop, but at a fraction of their price. It’s true that Chromebooks have their disadvantages, but for those who only need a highly portable device that will mostly be used for internet browsing, streaming movies, videos or music and writing, they are a great choice and their price makes them an even better option than traditional laptops.
And in today’s article we’re going to find out which are the best cheap Chromebooks (under $200) in 2018. Because, even though Chromebooks are known to be the cheapest laptops available on the market right now, it’s still pretty difficult to find some really good ones for such a low price.
But worry not! We’ve checked and tested a lot of Chromebooks so you don’t have to waste several hours doing the research, and we’re here to share with you the best Chromebooks under $200 for 2018.
This way, you can easily find your favorite and be sure that you make the best purchase. Because no matter which one you choose, you should know that it’s one of the best and you can’t go wrong picking it. Do have in mind that prices change, so do your own due diligence and double check all the prices.
So let’s not waste any time and let’s check out below the best cheap Chromebooks under $200 for 2018! We’ll start with the best 11.6 inch Chromebooks for under $200 as it’s really difficult (but not impossible) to find larger Chromebooks for this price. But if you want larger displays, scroll down as we have some of those to share as well!
Poin2 Chromebook 11
I don’t think that there are many people who actually heard about the Poin2 company before, but that’s not a problem. The company itself is really young, having been founded in 2014, and it focuses on creating cheap yet solid Chromebooks at the moment.
So if you want something extremely cheap, but also good, you can safely choose the Poin2 Chromebook 11 – the cheapest device on our list. And worry not about the brand: it’s solid and works great so you’re not throwing money out of the window!
In terms of performance, this highly portable laptop does well for its size and price. It is powered by a Rockchip RK3288 processor going up to 1.8GHz – not the best processor on the market, but for a small and cheap Chromebook, it’s a perfect fit. It allows the device to run at decent speed with few reasons for complaint.
The processor is also backed up by 4GB of RAM to make it run faster, while the storage capacity, although small, is extremely fast too. We’re talking about 16GB of eMMC storage which is pretty much the norm when it comes to Chromebooks where you do everything online. And if you want more storage, you can use an SD card for that.
Although it doesn’t have a lot of extra slots (just 2 USB ones and one HDMI slot, apart from the SD one), it’s still a good product in our opinion selling at a really good price. It’s battery life is pretty solid as well – expect to get up to 8 hours on a single charge.
At 2.5 lbs, it’s extremely easy to carry around, it comes with built in virus protection and auto OS updates, plus a decent resolution of 1366×768 pixels which offers great image quality on the small screen. In other words, the cheapest on our list is a pleasant surprise, so you should definitely consider it as a solid purchase.
Samsung Chromebook 3
If you’re looking for a better known brand, we have this Samsung-made device that won’t disappoint. The Chromebook 3 is actually one of the most popular Chromebooks on the market, enjoying glowing reviews from users and experts alike, so you know for sure that you get a product that has been thoroughly tested and improved over the years.
While still a bit under our budget, it has very similar stats to the Point2 product recommended above, with the main difference being the processor. This one is powered by the Intel Celeron N3060 processor running at a base speed of 1.6GHz, but which can be boosted up to 2.48 GHz. It offers a bit less power than the one above, but still handling tasks well.
It also has 4GB of RAM to improve the speed, as well as 16GB of storage on an eMMC drive, so you have all the optimizations you could ask for in a good product.
It also offers the same amount of extra slots: 2 USB, 1 HDMI and 1 microSD slot for extra storage and peripherals, as well as 1366 x 768 pixels resolution.
All in all, the Chromebook 3 is mostly the same thing as the first recommendation on our list, but it’s backed up by glowing reviews and an increased popularity thanks to its brand. So if you prefer going for an established brand, you can’t go wrong with this one!
Acer Chromebook 11 C740
Things can get even better if you are ready to go to the top of our budget thanks to this amazing model manufactured by Acer. It beats the previous two recommendations in all areas in our opinion and you only have to pay a bit more to get it. Definitely the best choice for 11.6-inch Chromebooks!
It’s powered by the Intel Dual Core Celeron 3205U Processor which gets the best benchmarks scores so far, it only has 2GB of RAM but its overall speed is still very good and you won’t have any reasons to complain when streaming videos or doing online work.
The best thing about it is that it offers a bit more in terms of storage – and that’s always good to have on the go: we’re talking about 32GB of SSD storage. It also has the required ports that the other product on this list have: 2 USB slots, 1 HDMI and 1 microSD card reader.
It also has a new and improved design to make it more durable, it has a good battery that can deliver up to 8 hours of usage on a single charge and the image quality is great at the regular resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
This one is the heaviest on our list, but at 2.87 lbs, it’s definitely not a back breaker and still extremely portable. As I said, this is our top choice for 11.6″ Chromebooks under $200, so it’s definitely worth checking out!
Best Chromebooks under $200 (over 11.6-inch)
When it comes to laptops larger than 11.6 inches that run on the Chrome OS, our choices are pretty limited, unfortunately. We did find a bunch of refurbished options and we had no other options than go with these.
The certified refurbished products are used – usually coming from stores where they’ve been on display, so they will have some usage marks, but are tested and made to run just like brand new products would. So they’re still a good choice – and unfortunately the only choice you have if you’re looking for a Chromebook with a larger screen that costs under $200.
Asus C300MA 13.3″
With a display size of 13.3 inches, this one is decently sized, while remaining highly portable. It looks really good and handles programs and Chrome really well, so it’s definitely a product to look at if you’re interested with a larger screen – but without going too large.
This one is powered by the solid dual-core Intel Celeron N2830 processor running at 2.16GHz, but which can be turbo boosted up to 2.4 GHz. It also has 4GB of RAM and 16GB of SSD storage for even faster loading times.
It comes with all the slots that the other products on this list offer, but also a Multi-Format SD Card Reader which comes in handy if you already have an SD card for increasing its storage.
The resolution is still just HD at 1366 x 768 pixels, but the image quality is good as the screen size is not too large for the lower resolution to make you feel an actual difference when browsing the internet. It weights 3 lbs and has a good battery life too in order to round up a really good product overall.
2018 Acer 15.6″ FHD Chromebook
This one is a real beast and I am extremely happy that it’s available for under $200 at the moment of writing this article. With its impressive size (that of a regular laptop – 15.6″), and solid specifications, this one will definitely make you happy!
It doesn’t have the best processor under its hood: the Intel Dual-Core Celeron 3205U Processor runs at 1.50GHz, but also comes with 4GB of RAM and overall the performance is more than decent. You can also add to the mix 32GB of SSD storage and you have even more reasons to be happy.
The real surprise, though, comes from the fact that it actually offers full HD resolution on its large screen: 1920×1080 pixels with IPS Technology, which means that the quality of the image is top notch.
I also like its white design a lot and I hope you will too. And even if you don’t, you will be happy to hear that it has a solid battery offering up to 9 hours of regular usage on a single charge and that, overall, this is a really good, large Chromebook. Really surprised to see it selling for such a low price.
So these are our recommended Chromebooks under $200. I am happy that we managed to find good and cheap Chromebooks that have a display larger than 11.6-inch as well, since some consider the small screen a bit too small. Now just pick the one that you like the most and you’ll surely be happy with your choice!
