Viber Share Location: How to Deactivate or Activate It

Close-knit friends and family members may find Viber’s location-sharing capabilities helpful, especially when you’re on holiday or in an unfamiliar place. However, you may prefer to turn off location-sharing for privacy reasons.

If you’re a Viber user and want to keep your location private, read on to find out how.

  1. Launch the Viber app and click on the three dots on the bottom-right part of the screen (“More”).
  2. Click on Settings and navigate into the Privacy menu.
  3. Click on Personal Data. Toggle the option for “Allow Accurate Location-Based Services” off.

If you’re using Viber for the first time, a permission menu will typically appear, asking you to allow Viber to access your location. You can agree or disagree, depending on whether you prefer to keep your location on or off.

Can You Set a Fake Location on Viber?

No, you cannot set a fake location on Viber, as it doesn’t enable the ability to select a manual location. Instead, Viber determines your location based on WiFi and GPS information and the permissions you set on your device.

If anything, Viber might transmit imprecise location information, especially if you’re in a more remote area with a spotty connection.

We recommend against using applications or services that allow you to fake your location, as they may contain malware or use your data maliciously.

As growing concerns regarding data privacy remain on the rise, you can never be too careful with the permissions you set on your devices. If you need to share your location with a family member or friend, we recommend sending a manual Google Maps link or providing directions over the phone.

If you have more tips on how to keep your location data safe online, let us know in the comments!
